Privacy Policy

Itabah (“Itabah”, “we”, “us”) is an Islamic companion app published by itabah. This policy explains what information the app processes, why, and the choices you have. If you have any question, write to info@itabah.com.

Itabah is designed to do as much as possible on your device. Depending on the features you use, the app may process:

• Location — used to calculate prayer times and the Qibla direction, and to find nearby mosques when you open that feature. Your location is used on-device and is not stored on our servers.
• Preferences — your chosen reciter, adhan, calculation method, theme, language and similar settings. These are saved locally on your phone.
• Companion prompts — when you use an AI companion (Ask Mufti, AI Duʿāʾ, Dream, Sakīnah, Zakat AI, Baby names, Tafsīr-on-tap, or the Halal Check AI fallback), the text you type — and, for Halal Check, a photographed ingredients label — is sent to xAI (api.x.ai), our third-party AI provider, to generate a reply. • Diagnostics — if the app crashes, anonymous, aggregated crash information may be collected to help us fix bugs. It contains no personal content.

Itabah includes several AI companions — Ask Mufti, AI Duʿāʾ, Dream, Sakīnah, Zakat AI, Baby names, Tafsīr-on-tap, and an AI fallback inside Halal Check. These features are optional; nothing is sent to an AI provider unless you open one of these screens and send a message.

Who we share it with: when you use one of these features, your input is sent to xAI (api.x.ai), a third-party AI provider, to generate a reply — usually routed through Itabah’s own server-side proxy so no API key ships inside the app.

What is sent:

• The text you type, and — for chat-style companions — that conversation's recent history.
• For Halal Check's AI fallback: the ingredient text, or the photo of the ingredients label, when a barcode lookup can't resolve the product.
• Optional personalisation preferences you saved (display name, madhhab, age band, knowledge level, and app language), if you set them, so replies match your context.

What is not sent: your location, contacts, photos outside Halal Check, or any advertising/analytics identifier. AI replies are machine-generated for education and support — not a binding fatwa and not a substitute for a qualified scholar, doctor, or therapist.

Your permission: the first time you open any AI companion, Itabah shows an in-app screen explaining what is sent and to whom, before you can send a message. You must acknowledge it to continue. Third-party AI processing only happens after you take that action and choose to send a message.

xAI processes this data under its own privacy policy, linked above. We select providers whose data-handling commitments align with Itabah’s privacy-first approach.

• We do not require you to create an account or give us your name, email or phone number to use the app.
• We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information — ever.
• We do not show advertising and do not embed advertising trackers.
• We do not build advertising profiles or track you across other apps and websites.

A few features rely on trusted third parties to work, and only the minimum necessary data is shared with them:

• Quran and hadith text and recitation audio are streamed from public Islamic content providers.
• The AI companions send your prompt (and, for Halal Check, an ingredients-label photo) to xAI, our AI model provider, to generate a reply — see AI companions & third-party sharing above.
• Maps and mosque search may use a maps provider to display nearby locations.
• App distribution and optional crash reporting are handled by Apple App Store and Google Play.

Each provider processes data under its own privacy terms. We choose providers that align with our privacy-first approach and share as little as possible.

Itabah is suitable for a general audience and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the app requires no account and collects no personal profile, families can use it with confidence.

You are in control. You can revoke location permission at any time in your device settings (prayer times will then use a city you set manually). You can clear the app’s on-device data by clearing app storage or uninstalling. Because we don’t hold an account or a server-side profile for you, there is generally nothing for us to delete on our side — but you can always contact us with any request.

If we make material changes to this policy we will update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, note the change in the app. Continued use of Itabah after an update means you accept the revised policy.
